Michelle Bradley HLTA nurture and speech therapy I am a part teacher qualified higher level teaching assistant working in the nurture room at Canon Johnson. I have 15 years of experience working with children with special educational needs in both mainstream and specialist educational settings. The nurture room is set up to provide a calming and soothing environment for children who are experiencing emotional stress or require therapeutic interventions for things such as self-esteem, social skills or anger management. It is also the place where children will have speech therapy sessions following assessments by NHS speech therapists, who set targets around which the sessions are then based. Usually children who attend sessions are referred by our school SENCOs following recommendations from external agencies though other children may be referred by teaching staff or can self-refer if experiencing difficulties.
