Over the next few weeks our literacy unit is 'non-chronological reports'. The book that we are basing our unit on is 'Dougal's Deep Sea Diary' by Simon Bartram.
At the end of the unit, each of the children will have created their own non-chronological report based on a sea creature of their choice. There will also be plenty of additional writing opportunities built in along the way.
During this unit, we are focusing on addition and subtraction. We are using 'MathsHUBS White Rose' with a particular focus on deeper learning with mastery. Your child will also take part in a 'Big Maths' session that will take place once a week.
Reading has become a real focus for the school. We have changed the way we do our guided reading sessions. It works on a two week rolling programme.
Week one is 'text interrogation' week. This involves all the children reading various extracts and answering SATs style questions; this will help them become used to the format of the questions.
Week two is built around their own group book and their whole class novel. The children will each get one guided session based on their book followed by comprehension activities based around the whole class text - this will help to increase reading mileage and stamina.
PE will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays - please ensure your child has their kit.
